Hi MP, thanks for commenting on my blog. This picture was taken on the way home from the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais, about 30 to 40 minutes north of San Francisco (over the Golden Gate Bridge). We just had a great time on Mt. Tam (I might post some of those pics soon), and we were driving home in the late afternoon with the sun low on the horizon. We decided to pull over and admire the view of the fog rolling in from the Pacific Ocean.

This road is called "Panoramic Highway", and it runs along the side of Mt. Tamalpais.

I was gonna say "on the side of the road" but I guess you had to be specific.
